Here at Kraken, we’ve been gamers from the very (↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A) start. Like crypto, the world of gaming rewards creativity, makes the digital tangible, and stretches the boundaries of our imaginations. Which is why we couldn’t be more excited to return to GDC in San Francisco this week.

We’re at GDC because we believe the combination of technical smarts and imagination found in many game developers makes them uniquely able to contribute to Kraken’s mission. The way we work and how we think about furthering the crypto world comes from our founders’ long history in gaming. We know our interface needs to draw users in, delight them, and reward them for going down the rabbit hole of crypto knowledge – game developers are the best in the world at creating those types of experiences.

This year, we wanted to connect the dots between what we do here and what you do in gaming. Crypto is still intangible for many, and casts Drain Willpower more often than Mesmerizing Grasp. All of us in the industry are constantly thinking of better ways to explain this incredible tech to the general public in a way that fascinates each individual. Few have had as much success with that as CryptoKitties. That’s why we’ve partnered with them for GDC.

For those that don’t know, CryptoKitties are collectible digital art forms created in the popular blockchain game of the same name. Each CryptoKitty is a unique digital asset, or non-fungible token (NFT), created, managed, and traded through smart contracts.

Over 1.4 million CryptoKitties have been created by players in the breeding game that lets players mix and match their favourite genes to discover “mewtations,” find limited-edition “Fancy Cats” hidden throughout the genome, and design furever friends they can keep as mementoes or sell on an open marketplace. The CryptoKitties smart contracts are open source, so developers are constantly building new games, swag, and experiences for CryptoKitties to be used in.

The CryptoKitties smart contracts are the world’s most popular outside of asset exchange contracts, with more than 4.4 million transactions recorded to date, representing tens of millions of dollars exchanged on the marketplace. So who better for Kraken to partner with at GDC?
